Our nightstand setup says a lot about how we like to end the day and start another. What’s On My Nightstand asks celebrities, entrepreneurs, and beyond what essentials they like to keep within arm’s reach. If you haven’t already guessed from the existence of this column, I think there’s something really special about a nightstand . Sure, you might not notice it every day — often covered with the items that you do — but it’s a foundational piece for taking care of yourself before, during, and right after you sleep.
For actress Inbar Lavi — known for playing Eve in the popular TV show “ Lucifer ” (which just debuted its fifth season on Netflix), among other roles — her nightstand has withstood the test of time, staying by her side throughout different stages of life.
“I’ve had it for years, I think I got it at Target when I was still renting an apartment in West Hollywood when I first came to Los Angeles,” Lavi recalled to Apartment Therapy. But there’s magic in having a nightstand for that long. It means it’s sturdy, reliable, gets the job done, and — perhaps most important of all — its design can mold to various environments. The part that does often change, though, are the things inside and on it to accommodate new needs, responsibilities, and wellness rituals. During a recent interview with Apartment Therapy, Lavi shared all of the nightstand items she holds near and dear to her heart (and head), plus one thing she avoids putting on her nightstand at all costs.
Acting scripts: “You’ll definitely find scripts, a Sharpie, and pen on my nightstand quite often, just to go through certain lines that I want to mark out. I work on my lines a lot before I go to bed because it kind of seals them in.”
Candles by Wild Flora: “Right now, I’m obsessed with a small flower boutique called WildFlora . They have really gorgeous flowers, but they also carry their own candles . I always have a candle by my bed — good lighting, you know?”
“ Untamed ” by Glennon Doyle: I’m not going to tell you how long I’ve been reading it, because it’s really embarrassing and I haven’t finished it yet, [but] I have a book by Glennon Doyle and it’s called ‘Untamed.’ It’s really, really magnificent.” Fresh greenery: “I always have some kind of greenery on [my nightstand], whether that’s fresh flowers or branches that I like to cut from the tree.”
A glass of water: “At night, I always have a glass of water — like probably a lot of people.” Saje diffuser : “I’m big on scents, so I do have a diffuser on my nightstand. It’s from Saje , and they’ve got all my favorite scents. When I go to bed, I like to put on tranquility .”
The one item Lavi bans from her nightstand : her phone, which she actually keeps outside of her bedroom altogether. “It affects our minds, it affects our soul, it definitely creeps in when you don’t even realize it — our subconscious is a powerful thing.”
